ROBERT COOPER
Barefoot Bobbi, Fine Artist
Long Beach, California
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
(Attributed to Lao Tzu)
Having taken his very first steps in Liberia, West Africa, Robert Cooper –
artistically and affectionately known as Barefoot Bobbi – demonstrated an
affinity for art as a child. With his sojourn guiding him across North America
from Canada to the United States, including a turn in Monterey, Mexico
and his domestic travels extending from New York to Maryland to California,
it was inevitable that his talent would emerge as an artistic culmination of
his intra-continental and cross-country trek. Surprisingly, Bobbi was not
inspired to create his first painting professionally until 1996.
Almost fifteen years later, he has created over one-hundred pieces of artwork
spanning various media from canvas to vases, from bottles to tiles, from
illustration board to urban murals as well as sculpting. Self-taught and infused
with a God-given talent, Bobbi has a vibrant and soulful body of work that evokes at once passion and peace, activity and serenity, illusion and reality. The spiritual and dynamic images that abound from his imagination are a reflection and interpretation of his mind, body, and spirit.
Such images have been featured in charity auctions to benefit children,
including the Make a Wish Foundation (Beverly Hills) and the La Quinta Arts
Foundation (Palms Spring).
His work has also been exhibited at renowned and juried shows such as the
Beverly Hills Affaire in the Garden, the Salsalito Art Show (California),
the Art Festival of Sedona (Arizona), the Atlanta-Clark University National
Black Arts Festival (NBAF), the University of Maryland (Baltimore) Artscape,
and the Pan African Film & Art Festival.
